Hugh Massy arrived in Ireland and took confiscated land at Duntrileague ,( near Galbally) County Limerick after the Cromwellian wars , and in 1776 his grandson was made Baron Massy , and by the 1880's the wider family had a number of estates and houses. By 1924 the family were financially destitute, and the last ancestor was evicted from the estate at Killakee near Rathfarnham Dublin , and spent the rest of his life living in the gate lodge.
