The Early Hours was completed just before Rory’s death in 2024. Here are poems about loss, nostalgia, genocide and love, written over the last twenty years of his life. These poems were guided by his belief that, ‘A poem must lift, take wing and fly—ideally, but not always—towards the sun. It should above all be luminous… continue to shine after it has been read, in the way the light of a perished star continues to travel through a galaxy.’
