Survivors - subtitled ''The story of Ireland's struggle as told through some of the outstanding living people recalling events from the days of Davitt , through James Connolly, Brugha, Collins, De Valera, Liam Mellows and Rory O'Connor to the present time' related to Uinseann Mac Eoin with portraits of the survivors by Colman Doyle''
The work is important for a number of reasons - it was taken at the very last opportunity before the death of many of those who recalled events. MacEoin produced a number of important histories of the Irish republican movement, including this groundbreaking oral history collection Survivors, in which he interviewed veterans of the revolutionary period. This was also an important work for another reason, as some veterans of the 1916-23 period had refused to talk to the Bureau of Military History, a state initiative to record their first hand testimonies. It was left to republicans like Ernie O’Malley and MacEoin to gather important memories. He also compiled The IRA in the Twilight Years, which told the story of the republican movement after its defeat in the Civil War. Mac Eoin himself was a noted campaigner for the retention of Georgian Dublin.
